The time is now, as the highly anticipated AMR/USAirways merger is now officially complete. According to the two companies involved, it will take about 18-24 months for them to secure a single operating certificate. Until that time, the two airlines (along with their separate sites/programs/systems) will operate independently until the integration process moves forward. This merger gives the resulting carrier a network with almost 6,700 daily flights going to more than 50 countries all around the world. AA CEO Doug Parker commented that between the two merged carriers, it is their intention to give customers the best of both worlds and put themselves in a position to deliver for their stakeholders. The carrier mentioned that everyone should see the resulting improvements as early as January, one of which is the ability to earn and redeem miles while flying with either American or US Airways. I look forward to this greatness as I've always flown with both of these airlines!
